چکیده

Engineered nanoparticles are widely incorporated into a large number of consumer products due to their specific physico-chemical properties in comparison to bulk materials. Cerium dioxide nanoparticles (CeO2) are currently used in several applications: as a component of catalytic converters, as a UV blocking or polishing agent or as a diesel fuel additive. The fate of engineered nanoparticles in the aquatic environment is highly dependent on their aggregation, transport and surface chemistry. Interaction with natural organic matter (NOM) and solution chemistry are expected to play an important role in the behavior of nanoparticles in natural water. In our work we investigated the fate of cerium dioxide nanoparticles (JRC NM-212) in various models of natural waters. In particular, we adjusted the composition of some solutions according to the characteristic of the Geneva lake water. The influence of pH, ionic strength and concentration of NOM was also investigated by considering the CeO2 nanoparticle stability. Dynamic light scattering and electrophoretic measurement were used to study the surface charge and z-average [...] ORIEKHOVA, Olena, STOLL, Serge. Novel embedded Pd@CeO(2) catalysts: a way to active and stable catalysts.

1-wt% Pd-CeO(2) catalysts were prepared by co-precipitation of Pd nanoparticles with ceria (Pd@CeO(2)-CP), by a microemulsion procedure (Pd@CeO(2)-ME), and by normal impregnation of Pd salts (Pd/CeO(2)-IMP) in order to test the concept that Pd-CeO(2) catalysts could be more stable for the water-gas-shift (WGS) reaction when the Pd is embedded in CeO(2). Initial WGS rates measured at 250 degrees...

The effect of smart water and silica nanoparticles injection on wettability of limestone

Today, by using half of the oil reserves of the world, natural production of oil has decreased drastically. Gas and water injection for maintaining reservoir pressure is not responsive for oil production. At first, we dispersed silica nanoparticles in low salinity and after two weeks, there was no change in its stability. Then we mixed the nanoparticles in low salinity. After a while, we found o...

Natural colloids are the dominant factor in the sedimentation of nanoparticles.

Estimating the environmental exposure to manufactured nanomaterials is part of risk assessment. Because nanoparticles aggregate with each other (homoaggregation) and with other particles (heteroaggregation), the main route of the removal of most nanoparticles from water is aggregation, followed by sedimentation. The authors used water samples from two rivers in Europe, the Rhine and the Meuse. ...

Synthesis and characterization of chitosan-magnetic iron nanoparticles

Absorption is a common technology used for water and wastewater treatment since it is often fast and efficient, while costly at the same time. Therefore, the development of low-cost and efficient adsorbents has led to the rapid growth of research interest in this regard. Chitosan is a natural polyaminosaccharide with effective adsorption properties, which is applied to remove various pollutants...
